Elif Oker, MD, is the Chief Clinical Officer and Head, Health Systems at Carelon Digital Platforms,
an Elevance Health business. Elevance Health, formerly Anthem, Inc, is an innovation leader
dedicated to elevating whole health and advancing health beyond healthcare. Oker leads
health systems strategic partnerships and product portfolio, which includes exponential
technologies that create products and services to enable affordable, accessible healthcare for
everyone. At the start of the COVID pandemic, she initiated a clinical strategy to integrate
COVID-specific clinical care solutions with Elevance Health’s existing products. Subsequently, the
team has commercialized direct-to-consumer virtual care and executed a joint-venture bringing
access to virtual care to millions of Americans.
Before Elevance Health, Oker served in executive roles at a health payor organization and
healthcare startups. She began her career as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine
at the University of Illinois (UI Health), where she delivered healthcare, authored peer-reviewed
publications, taught residents and served in various medical center leadership roles. Outside of
Elevance Health, Oker serves as a mentor at Chicago’s MATTER healthcare incubator, on the
advisory board of the University of Michigan’s Weil Institute and is a member of the Economic
Club of Chicago. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan’s combined
undergraduate-medical school program (Inteflex), a Fellow of the American College of
Emergency Physicians (FACEP), a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
