Bio

Rob Lasson has been with the MEM Program from its inception. Since then, as director of creative services for the MEM Program at NC State University, he has led a dynamic team that functions as the department’s art, marketing, and public relations hub. In this role, from graphic and web design to videography, photography, social media, and media training, Lasson ensures that the faculty, staff, and students shine like the rock stars they are.

Building on this professional foundation, Lasson’s roots in design come from NC State University’s School of Design, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in product design, followed by a master’s degree in industrial design with a minor in business management, graduating cum laude. In addition, he holds executive training in digital marketing strategies from Kellogg Executive Education and a certification in social media management from NC State. Moreover, as a student, Rob was captain of the university’s rugby team, demonstrating the leadership and teamwork skills that continue to define his career.

Today, as a passionate storyteller and strategist, Rob has built his career around helping others succeed. Whether through compelling visuals, thoughtful messaging, or creative campaigns, he thrives on making others’ work shine. Ultimately, with expertise spanning design, digital marketing, media production, and strategic communications, Lasson continues to be a driving force in showcasing the innovation and excellence of NC State’s industrial engineering community.

His Career

Rob Lasson is a creative leader with more than two decades of experience in design, marketing, and operations. He began his career managing multi-location operations at Quick 10 and Bolton Corp., where he increased sales, opened new markets, and recovered major receivables. Subsequently, as Vice President of Bunn, Inc. (Texaco Xpress Lube), he doubled the company’s size, grew sales by 250%, and reduced costs through innovative management systems.

In 2004, Lasson launched Total Image Design, where he provided web, logo, and SEO services to more than 20 clients. As a result, he transformed the part-time startup into a thriving business generating steady revenue. Soon after, he became Director of Creative Services at CompeteWell LLC, where he created new departments, boosted web design sales by 4000%, and implemented a paperless project management system that improved efficiency.

By 2012, Lasson joined NC State University’s Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering as Webmaster and was later promoted to Director of Creative Services. In this role, he manages all communications, marketing, and creative initiatives, including web design, social media, photography, publications, and public relations. Most importantly, he leads the production of inGear magazine, consistently turning research and achievements into compelling stories that elevate the department’s reputation locally and nationally.
