Semra Ahiska King

Teaching Associate Professor

In 2004, Semra Ahiska King received a full scholarship from the Council of Higher Education of Turkey. This allowed her to pursue a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at NC State University. She completed her Ph.D. degree in 2008 and started her academic career as an Assistant Professor in the Industrial Engineering Department at Galatasaray University.

For over 10 years, she taught several Operations Research-related courses in English and French. Her research focused on applying stochastic processes in hybrid manufacturing/remanufacturing systems and unreliable multi-supplier systems. She also worked on using mathematical programming for designing product assembly systems and logistics networks.

In 2015, she received her Associate Professor title from the Council of Higher Education of Turkey. A couple of years later, she moved to the USA and taught ISE courses at NC State University as an Adjunct Associate Professor/Lecturer. Currently, she continues her career as an Associate Teaching Professor at the Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Teaching Interest

Ahiska King teaches Operations Research-related courses. These include Mathematical Programming Modeling and Applications, Stochastic Processes, and Discrete Optimization. Additionally, she covers Inventory Management, Analysis of Production and Service Systems, and Logistics Engineering. Her teaching also includes Engineering Economic Analysis.

Research Interests

Ahiska King’s research focuses on the applications of Operations Research, Systems Modeling, Stochastic Decision Making, Production and Inventory Management, Logistics and Supply Chains and Recoverable Systems.
