By showing her success and sharing her experiences\, she inspires others to strive for greatness and make a positive impact. Leading by example is a fundamental aspect of effective leadership. \nPreparedness in Times of Crisis\nOne key takeaway was the importance of being a well-prepared leader\, especially during times of crisis. President Wooten emphasized anticipating and planning for potential challenges\, developing contingency plans\, and navigating difficult situations. Being well-prepared allows leaders to respond and adapt more effectively during crises. \nContinuous Learning and Growth\nPresident Wooten’s knowledge and experience showcased the value of continuous learning and personal growth for leaders. She highlighted the importance of staying updated with industry trends\, seeking new perspectives\, and investing in self-improvement. As leaders\, we must constantly expand our knowledge and skills to stay relevant and make informed decisions. \nGenerosity and Sharing\nPresident Wooten shared copies of her book\, “The Prepared Leader\,” reflecting the spirit of generosity and the desire to empower others. Elevance Health\, formerly Anthem\, Inc.\, is an innovation leader dedicated to advancing health beyond healthcare. \nOker leads health systems strategic partnerships and manages the product portfolio. These include technologies that create affordable\, accessible healthcare for everyone. At the start of the COVID pandemic\, she began a clinical strategy to integrate COVID-specific care solutions with Elevance Health’s products. \nSubsequently\, the team commercialized direct-to-consumer virtual care. They also executed a joint venture to bring virtual care to millions of Americans. Before Elevance Health\, Oker served in executive roles at a health payor organization and healthcare startups. \nAdditionally\, she began her career as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at the University of Illinois (UI Health). There\, she delivered healthcare\, authored peer-reviewed publications\, and taught residents. She also served in various medical center leadership roles. \nOutside of Elevance Health\, Oker serves as a mentor at Chicago’s MATTER healthcare incubator. Furthermore\, she is on the advisory board of the University of Michigan’s Weil Institute and a member of the Economic Club of Chicago. \nShe graduated from the University of Michigan’s combined undergraduate-medical school program (Inteflex). DESCRIPTION:Join us as we welcome Patrick Murray\, Director of Global Retail Sales Development (Retired) at Intel\, to the MEM Program’s Think and Lead Seminar Series. He will be discussing effective mentoring – as a mentor and mentee. \nBiography\nPatrick Murray earned his BSIE from NC State in 1988. Including his time as a co-op\, he spent 30 years at Intel Corporation as an applications engineer\, managing several strategy and product planning teams\, and creating and managing Intel’s Global ISV Alliances Team. He closed his career managing Intel’s WW Retail Sales Development Team. \nAs a retiree\, Patrick started volunteering for the ISE Department as an alumni-student mentor and worked on special projects for the department head and the Advisory Board. In the Spring of 2020\, he began serving as an Industry/Executive coach supporting ISE undergraduate students in their senior design engineering class. \nAdditionally\, he now serves as an Adjunct Lecturer for ISE216 and ISE589/MBA555. In addition to volunteering with the ISE Department\, Murray serves on the Raleigh Charter High School board of directors. Furthermore\, he is the vice-chair of the Town of Cary’s Information Services Advisory Board. \nHe also serves as an industry mentor at Duke University’s Kenan Institute for Ethics and the University of Southern California’s Viterbi School of Engineering. Patrick is also a Miracle League baseball coach.

These professional relationships become some of the greatest assets or obstacles associated with career growth. In this seminar\, we will discuss how to make new professional relationships and strengthen them over time. \nBiography\nDr. Rock was a process and R&D metallurgist in industry for 18 years before joining the Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics at NCSU in 2016. He has experience in process & physical metallurgy\, project management\, modeling and additive manufacturing. Currently at NC State\, he is active in metals research using laser powder bed fusion and new alloy development for AM applications.

Sarah writes as a tech journalist for WRAL TechWire and was named 2021-2022 Public Policy Advocate of the Year by NAWBO. Recently\, Raleigh City Council Member David Knight appointed her to a three-year term on the city’s Community Engagement Board. Sarah earned a Ph.D. from NC State in Instructional Technology. She previously taught technical writing to engineering and business undergraduates and continues to work with students as a guest lecturer and mentor for senior design projects.
