DESCRIPTION:Title\nLessons Learned from 20+ years of Managing Engineers \nJoin us as we welcome Patrick Murray\, NC State adjunct Lecturer\, to the Think and Lead Seminar Series. He will share his decades of experience managing engineers. \nBiography\nPatrick Murray retired from a 30-year career at Intel Corporation. He started volunteering with ISE in the Fall of 2018\, serving as an alumni-student mentor and working on special projects for the department head and the ISE advisory board. In the Spring of 2020\, he expanded his volunteer activities by serving as an industry/executive coach\, supporting ISE undergraduate students in their senior design course. Additionally\, he co-teaches product development topics in ISE216 and ISE589/MBA555\, and delivers lectures on sustainable engineering topics across several ISE courses. He serves on the ISE Department’s AI Committee and the Master of Engineering Management Academic Committee.

He will discuss how to build a winning presentation and how to deliver it. \nBiography\nAfter a career in the automotive industry\, Rob Lasson returned to his alma mater\, NC State\, in 2012. As the MEM Director of Creative Services\, his job is to make the MEM faculty\, staff and students look like ROCK STARS! He provides web design\, social media\, graphic design\, photography\, videography\, content writing and media relations. Lasson works to promote our program to local and national media. He also works to get our faculty and students’ research into trade publications to raise the program’s reputation. \nLasson earned his master’s in industrial design and bachelor’s in product design from NC State.

She encourages clients to explore strengths and apply them effectively. Moreover\, she builds a strong rapport to understand each person’s background and what inspires them. Consequently\, she provides tailored guidance supporting personal growth and long-term career success. \nDarrell brings extensive experience guiding individuals through every stage of career development. Specifically\, she offers expertise in assessments\, occupational research\, job search strategies\, networking\, resume and cover letter writing\, and interview preparation. Furthermore\, she finds energy in observing clients’ progress\, especially when they uncover their purpose and pursue it with confidence. \nDarrell serves as Assistant Director and Career Counselor for Engineering at North Carolina State University. She counsels undergraduate and graduate students on self-exploration\, decision-making\, and position negotiations in this role. Additionally\, she collaborates with faculty and staff to provide workshops\, presentations\, and personalized coaching. She also interprets and applies Focus 2 assessment results to help students make informed choices. \nPreviously\, Darrell held career counseling and advising roles at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill\, Campbell University School of Law\, Wake Tech Community College\, and Elon University School of Law. Moreover\, she volunteered at Dress for Success\, supporting clients with job readiness skills. Earlier in her career\, she managed recruiting and marketing initiatives at Alston & Bird LLP and Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP\, where she coordinated hiring\, events\, sponsorships\, and marketing communications. \nDarrell earned a Master of Arts in Counselor Education and Career Counseling from North Carolina Central University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Paralegal Certificate from Meredith College. Ultimately\, her passion remains helping individuals realize their potential and thrive in meaningful careers.

Moreover\, it’s the most powerful model ever created for marketers\, innovators\, new product developers and executives to create value for customers. \nBiography\nWilliam “Scott” Burleson has a diverse background in manufacturing engineering\, product management and leadership for SaaS development. Furthermore\, as a product manager for John Deere’s premium compact tractors\, he led strategic marketing for the 1023E and 1025R models. Using the JTBD framework\, these became two of Deere’s most successful products. Additionally\, as the director of the Strategyn Institute\, he worked alongside the best JTBD practitioners. \nToday\, as Senior Vice President for The AIM Institute\, Burleson leads product development for Blueprinter® software. He also teaches innovation workshops using the New Product Blueprinting process and advises corporate leaders on JTBD principles. Moreover\, he holds an MS in Management and a BS in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University.
